here is a C&P of a post on another airsoft board...
they cant figure out why people talk about them or call them elitist pricks?
well heres your answer...
Hillslam Join Date: Aug 2005 Posts: 1,201 Hillslam is a Private First Class iTrader: (1) The reason AO comes up so high in Google searches on airsoft gun reviews, gear questions and so forth is exactly because of the stringent standards.
The moderating, the existing user base not responding to frivolous questions, uninformed answers to these questions being stamped out etc all builds the credibility, accuracy and veracity of the information here.
I for one don't want to see that muddied and diluted with crap just to make the place more newbie friendly.
If anything I think the sport needs more of a barrier to entry. If 2008-2010 showed me anything was that the influx of paintballers and CODers was not a good thing. I think we're only now recovering from those two bad seasons' influx of crap new community members (attitude, cheating, sportsmanship, lack of event rule reading and following, idiotic posting, sense of entitlement, etc) - we've taken 2 years to weed out a decent chunk of the bad apples, why would we want to open the doors wider now?
If that's elitist then snap into a Slim Jim. I'd rather have small events with quality attendees and excellent sportsmanship than massive games with hordes of realtree commandos. I'd prefer AO stay above the national online quality average as well.
huh so they cant figure out why new people coming in have an attitude? or why the hobby doesnt grow more? looks pretty obvious to me..

The below is my response to this thread:
I think that there are many reasons why this community is the way it is, not the least of all is Ego. I haven't seen this much big roostering in one place since high school and that is saying something considering where I went to High School.
Ego is the destroyer of reason. It causes stupid and nonsensical things on the field like playing so hyper aggressive that you forget you are trying to have fun rather than boot stomp the other team (spawn camping etc.). It causes players to believe that there gun/loadout/attitude/whatever is so superior that there the laws of physics suddenly cease to apply to their bb's and make them have a micro anuerisim while screaming across the field at your opponent. Ego drives players to approach the game like a fight rather than a laid back time to sling plastic at your buddies and make new friends, and all that is on the field.
Off the field Ego causes people to "clique up" and believe that they are superior to other posters who may have a lower post count or aren't a known commodity. Ego causes posters to do nothing but believe they have the inalienable right to make other, less (not always the case) informed posters feel stupid for opening their mouths. Ego causes people to complain about a field, an organizer or a group of players behind the "safety" of their computer screens while smiling and thanking them to their face.
This community is full of some of the most kind, generous, good natured people I have had the privilege to associate with. It is also home to some of the most duplicitous, cruel and self absorbed people I have ever met. Until people are willing to set there own egos aside and stop either A. Acting like you are super important and looking/talking down to others in the community (either to their face, behind closed doors or on the boards) because you have better gear, guns, boots, a cooler dog etc., or B. Stop kissing each others asses just to "score points" with someone you perceive to be in position A this problem is one that will continue to grow. It feeds on hopes and dreams of young players looking for something to identify with and the resentments and discontent of those who feel the sting of days gone by.
Like Blade said, to one degree or another we are all guilty of this. I know I have had my moments on the field (see Jonah's 5 minutes of rage at the 1st STACC Open ) but you get over it, remember you are playing a game to have fun and then.....have freaking fun. Airsoft is a hobby, a retreat and a way for me to unwind with people I care about. Lately, airsoft feels like a job and that is not why I do what I do. Blade I applaud your efforts in trying to foster a discussion about the solution. I suspect this will turn out like the other threads where very few own their behavior and the rest tear those who do down behind the scenes. Maybe I'm wrong and this is a turning point for the boards, but in my experience.......let's just say I'm not optimistic.
Good luck to us all.

Jonah: yes my friend i saw your reply and understand totally how you feel.
and in PM's that i sent to Red, Torque, EH and a few others i explained that if it wasnt for guys like you & Oldspice & Kyle that 4 of the new active players you guys got (snakey, demon, NastyNick & me) would probably have told the elitist bastards to get ****ed pretty quick...
but since you guys actually took the time to bring us in and teach us a little while we played on the fly.... now you got junkies for the game.
shoot you soon my friend.

I've used that site since about 2004. I use it as a library more than anything. That place blows up on a regular basis over the same thing. I don't see it changing anytime soon. I've seen worse drama though. The NC forum can really blow up too. It gets real interesting on there sometimes. Drama would actually pop up here more if people actually posted. It's just people with too much time on their hands and a computer.

I believe I'll throw my 2 cents in this cup.
I like to see myself as a good player. But I don't believe being a good player means getting kills. I would much rather die a bunch, but be calling out people and be giving support to the teams. Most people think of airsoft as they do CoD, get the most kills and don't care how they do so. Which is a very wrong way to think about airsoft. It is team based, without helping your team and receiving help then you have already lost.
As the next part, most people compare each other but what they use. If he uses a Tokyo Marui Famas and M1911 he is not the best. I have a CA M4 that has been modified out the ying yang and I love it. I easy hit targets that are at 20-30 yards away. That is wonderful for what I need for. Yea I have a couple things I plan on doing to it and create it a M4 Sniper. That is all you need is something you like. Not the most expensive guns you can buy and the most.
Well that is what I think about it.

^^^ agreed
while i like shooting people.... ive had plenty of days where my "ratio" wasnt on the positive side and i had a blast.
Jonah can tell you first hand, im all about the PUSH... i'll get killed to expose they other team anytime its needed so that our team can then have an advantage of knowing their position.
always tell someone if they made a good shot on you. its a cool thing to do and shows your not a fuktard who wont call his hits..
i still hear this all the time about people not calling hits.... getting killed is not that big of a deal and goes back to the EGO thing Jonah mentioned.
Malice Rygar gets killed more than anyone ive ever seen, he calls hits if they miss and they are just close! we still have a great time with him.

Another thing is about being shot. When I play I do like 5-7 round bursts. And even if I hit with the first bullet its my finger's nature to hold till its 5 rounds. Don't cry and complain about being shot extra, cause every once in a while you will do it. Yea getting hit may hurt, but you are playing the game so go with it. I have been hit like 10 times before and I didn't complain about it. Yea it hurt but that is how the game is. Deal with it.

oh skelty ...
now you'll get labeled as one of those types they dont want to play the game.... be careful they may even threaten you to not be allowed on their fields (like they did me)!
ROTFLMAO
and they can do this cause they rule every bb that goes thru the air and it will all be the way they say or else.
thank GOD i found the Ruins Raiders field & TaskForce 740's field.
oh wait did i say that? those guys play to the exact letter of AO law. wouldnt want to get the "lords of BB's in Ohio" down on my pals.
can only imagine what the lords of airsoft would do if they saw someone throw a NERF AXE.
yeah im in a sarcastic/cynical mood today. :-)

I wish I lived closer to Ruin Raiders. I would be at every game possible! And personally, I am thinking about building a BTR for airsoft soonish. Use a S-10 Frame and add extra wheels then weld it all up and put some seats in it and have some friend use SAW and M60s in it. Then lets see how they like me showing up And yes. I am 100% serious and I am working on blueprints and finding the stuff for it.

yeah if you live in NITRO you can make it to a Raiders game in about 1.5 hrs or so.... same time it takes us to get there.
if Demon, Nick or me go to MAM or Chilli it takes about 1.5 hours either place.. took 1.5 to get to the place we played outside of Charleston too...
good news is its an EASY drive. :-)
