The drums of war continue to beat as the Ukraine teeters on the brink of civil war or worse, World War Three. After the uprising in Kiev, Russian forces continue their massive build up on the borders as armed pro Russian supporters take control and hold Ukrainian cities.
The newly reformed Ukrainian government desperately appeals for NATO and the US to get involved, promising the armed retaking of their cities with or without international help. As Ukrainian forces rush towards the border, the US and it's allies are forced to acknowledge that war may be inevitable.
The United States scrambles to send whatever it can to the area while it readies a second carrier group and heavy units back home. The presence of the Nimitz carrier group, Marines, Army troops and the handful of NATO troops that have trickled into the area appear to be just a speed bump to the ever growing Russian force.
OPERATION RED STAR RISING
While the world's attention is focused on the cities, borders and Crimean peninsula, intelligence reports that Russian special op's troops of an unknown organization have been seen rallying pro Russian militants in the rural Novosyanka valley. This valley is somewhat itself a relic of the Cold War, containing the dilapidated villages of Novochakya and Kalanivka. During the Cold War, these once thriving villages provided workers for the nearby Uranium mines L47 and L48. Since the fall of the iron curtain, these mines were deemed too dangerous and costly to operate so they were closed and the valley's inhabitants were forced to try to eek out a living from farming the toxic fields. The intentions of the Russians are unknown, it is speculated that this is an advanced force meant to secure the old mines for future use if this conflict goes hot. When asked about their presence, Moscow would not confirm the troops being there, yet stated that "Any troops deployed near population areas are there only to guarantee the safety of ethic Russians". NATO's response to this is a small force of troops pulled from units all over the area, due to the manpower shortage and low priority of this area, the small force is not intended to be used as an attack force, but hopefully their mere presence will deter any Russian incursion into the villages.
Are the Russians here really to protect the people? Are they here to retake the old mines or is there something more sinister at hand?
