since we were talking about it in another thread thought it would be a fun test with my daughter this morning while everyone else was still sleeping so we went out and did some shooting to have a better basis for the conversation in the other threads.
conditions:
it was over cast with an occasional sprinkle and a slight breeze off and on. temp was about 70F. so in other words it was real world conditions.
effective distance on a standard gun has been a ongoing conversation so heres how it went.
went out and double checked the target distance and so on.
did 2 distances with both 20 & 25 grn KSC perfects and 6.01 & 6.03 prommy/matrix ss barrels x 407length (this fits perfectly inside the cage of the flash hider on the m4A1 with nothing sticking out.)
did 10 warm up shots at nothing but the distance to set the hop up and let it settle in. (in every set up)then 50 shots with each BB at each distance, then switched barrels and repeated the test completely.
gun chrono'd out at 387-390 on the 20's with the hop up "OFF" and the 6.03
gun chrono'd at 391-392 with 20's with hop up "OFF" and the 6.01
150' to man target with 12" ballon head:
20's could hit the target with no problem but really had to work for headshots & not enough power to bust the balloon
25's could hit target much easier & head shots ran about 2 out of 5. still no balloon busting.
balloon had a little wind to work with as it never really held still.
FOOTNOTE: the 6.03 barrel has ZERO jams with either BB's the 6.01 had several with the 25's & 2 with the 20's
197' to man target with 12" balloon head.
20's this was obviously out there to where it was "robin hood" it in there and play with the wind. also could loop them around things if needed.
25's they still had a decent hit ratio to the overall target with easily id'd hits, balloon hits dropped to 3 out of 10.
obviously no balloon breakage at this distance.
6.03 barrel had no jams. the 6.01 again had several. (KSC's are usually the smaller of the bb's, so not sure how it would work with BB's that were 5.98)
while the m4A1 isnt a sniper rifle i sure wouldnt be afraid to take a shot at someone near the 200' mark & can obviously burst fire and keep them pinned if needed.
overall personal opinion:
in this case the 6.01 was a waste of money compared to the 6.03 as it was in no way more accurate at all in this gun, only gained about 3 fps on the chrono and then wanted to jam on good quality bb's. TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED in 6.01 verses 6.03.
oh and it was a fun time with the older daughter shooting. ;D
