Whatever you do, if you upgrade the spring be sure to upgrade to a composite piston with metal gear teeth. I put an M120 in mine and it stripped the piston in the first few minutes of Blind Fury VI.

I was looking at the piston with half of the teeth to be steel.

Only replace the broken parts..... If nothing is wrong with the internals don't replace them. If you want it to shoot better. Think about a barrel or hop up bucking.

What gun is this going in? What fps do you want? Are there any other upgrades that you would like?

@stang. He's got a stock DBoys that he wants to upgrade and work on. Though Stang did bring some thing I didn't think about. An m110 spring.

It's worth considering AFTER the motor, bucking and barrel.

The barrel, hop up bucking will probably be the first set of upgrades you should look at doing. I would go with a Madbull 6.01 tightbore, just use quality ammo and the madbull hop ups are really nice. I am not sure what the stock fps is on your Dboys, but I know my old JG was around 410, then lost compression and went to like 380. I would guess that it has an M120 in it. A guarder M110 will put you at about 350-380 fps and will lesson the stress on your gearbox (last longer). If you replace the spring I would also get metal bushings. Then if you wanted to go with a new piston, I would go with a polycarb with metal teeth (best of both worlds). After all of this, then I would go with the high speed (not torque) motor.
At this point you have put about 150 bucks into you essentially new gun. I did this with my G&G M16 and after I rebuilt it, I havent opened it up in a year or so. It shoots 370 fps with about 18-20rps. This is with the stock motor, it would be higher with the hi speed motor. If you really wanted to go crazy you could get high speed gears too, with a lipo and mosfet. Then you would be around 25-30 rps.

He has to start with the motor. It's dead. I don't know about the newer DBoys. But the older ones have pitiful motors. My son's did not last long at all.

Well, that would be ideally what he would do. I guess since he needs the motor the high speed would still be the way to go, unless he wants to make his M4 a DMR (Facepalm) and put a bigger spring in it.
