The poll says it all. This is open for discussion. I'm curious, with all new players coming onto the scene. How much would you be willing to pay to play on an organized field?

dedicated airsoft? how big? Props? if so what and how big? I've often thought of buying some land for this. I as a player want to play for free, but if I was to do something such as scary creek then thats my income and would want to be played. I know dan does alot on his property for airsoft all in the name of fun. I'd pay or want pay for a place that looks like a mout town. I may come into the owner ship of 100 acres all fenced in. If that happens you bet your sweet ass I'll have games there. HOWEVER, that land is for a business (training/ raising hounds) so the use of the land for airsoft would be a liabilty to my business and to cover it I would want some sort of reimbursement.

well i think i can speak for majority of my team when i say an organized field would be great but we'd only play there a few times if it cost anything. dont get me wrong props would be great but we have plenty of fun runnin around the small area we play in now.

First, let's say once a month. Second, it could be a dedicated airsoft field(rare on the east coast) or a paintball/airsoft field. As far as props and buildings. That's hard to pin down. Games in North Carolina are about half the price of the Games in Ohio. But, you won't end up with free t-shirts or patches. That is with buildings towns and tanks etc. Remember, fields only get bigger and better when they have money coming in. That's another discussion though and liability is always an issue and generally a concern for every field. As far as a spot in the woods compared to a good field. Bloodhaze, if you go to a good field. You'll take that statement back.

Insurance, Insurance, Insurance! This is the key to a legit field. I personally would never allow my closes friends play airsoft because as soon as something happens, I am at fault. Waivers are not worth the paper they are printed on, so insurance is a must. If you want a fun field to play on, you will need to pay extra for buildings/props/etc. For example, I played at Specs today. Tough field, GREAT POTENTIAL, but it needs a lot of man power to build stuff. In two years with some work weekends and equipment (DEUCE!!!! ) it will be a great field that you could have a game once an month no problem. So either WV Airsoft decides as a WHOLE to accept the fact that the games that are going to be hosted are small, backyard affairs OR we work together to build a field that can host big events and monthly open plays. Preferably there will be more that one field so that everyone does not need to drive forever. IF ANYONE NEEDS HELP! setting up a field, waivers, advice please let me know. I have worked closely with Mike of MAM Paintball in building our field. It takes work and time, but if a local team decides to constantly help a local field it helps out so much. Also, I think the reality is that Paintball will need to be included simply because the amount of revenue from airsoft is not there. Besides the more people we have supporting a local field, the more likely it is to succeed.

not much, I'm with bloodhaze19 on this one. I would rather play a game like FAW last weekend than go an pay $30 for an entry fee any day, It's bad enough paying for gas to even get to some of the games. Not saying I wouldn't pay for a nice event once or twice a year thou, just my 2 cents

I understand your point digger. Most of my games are 3 to 4 hours away. To give you an idea though. Scary Creek charges 12 per person. Not really that bad at all. With a large group. We might be able to secure a day a month without paintballers. If I remember right. The last time they went. They had the upper field to themselves. They only had to share the lower field. As far as the games I have been to in the south. Fulda gap for instance was 15 dollars a day I believe. That was a game of about 500 on 75 acres with multiple towns, structures and "tanks". I'm really just trying to gauge how people feel about paying to play. I'm not trying to change anything here folks. It's just an open discussion. Keep the posts coming.

I'm toying with the idea for Sandyville games, that why I can get some plywood for structures and some sand bags. This woudl simply be 5 a head, no more unless the field really gets built up.

Wouldn't want a discount. I do think that regular monthly games there like the turnout at FAW would be of benefit to them and the airsoft community. Not to mention maybe recruiting some paintballers. I saw the speech on the front of the website about being the "new" Scary Creek and times being tough all over. To me that seems like an opening to get in there. But, that is not the general feeling. Like I said I'm just taking a poll. It is what it is.

I realize that once you play for free the prospect of having to pay for it does seem a bit uncool however there are a few things to be said for that. When the Raiders first started using MAM it had three forts and some woods and we only used 1/3 of the field that we use now (western field for those that have been.) We quickly took the field fees that we earned and began re-investing them into the field. We have now more than doubled the play area, dug roads, built at least 15 bunkers and DFP's along strategic routes, built a village, two more dedicated forts as well as a hilltop firebase that is a great hard point. Going from backyard play where the rules of the game were set before each go around to organized opens and milsims on a for real field I would never go back . After OP Talon Stang and I were chatting and it sounds like Specter's field has a HUGE amount of potential. I have been to events at every major field in Ohio with one exception and I can tell you paying 35 dollars to play at Roseville prison is worth every penny. Even though the sportsmanship was less than grand from the WPA crowd driving 5 hours to Hubbard to play Battlefront and camping with my friends was a great experience. Red Dragon to date is one of my favorite places to play and the list could go on and on and on. Sure it costs money, but the time with my teamates on the field, the post game meals, and the Radio convoy on the way home make it worth every cent I spend and more. Just sayin guys, maybe giving it a try isn't the worst thing in the world .

alright i'll join in on this one....
dont mind paying a field fee at all.
of course i like to play free! (had fun shooting Mr & Mrs Bloodhaze & a great time at Jokers)
but if you have a field set up like MAM where Jonah and Stang are at? HOLY COW is that a different world of playing!
if you have a family and limited time (like most of us older guys) then paying $15 so that someone else does the set up and field maintenance is not a big deal.
they also provide a super lunch for $5-7, at the field repair, accurate chrono for safety/cheaters
& yes as Stang said the dreaded "INSURANCE".
but i still like to play for FREE too! LMAO
the main thing is more places to play. would love to play at Jokers again, FAW, and so on...
honestly though the $15 is about the limit for most of the younger players who dont have parents paying it for them.... or are struggling to be independent.
ya gotta remember for a lot of the 16-30yr old players this is 2 full hours of their paycheck plus gas & driving.
much more than that prices them out of the game.

While I agree about cost for younger players. Throwing together 15 to 20 bucks for a field fee once a month doesn't seem to hard of a stretch. That's a night at the movies or (to some) a 12 pack of beer. Remember, we aren't talking about every week. All activities cost money. There are no free movies since they've pretty much gotten rid of drive ins(You can't stick anybody in your trunk when you go to the theatre : . A night out at the bars will break you. School sports, that's a good one. I spend hundreds a year on on warm ups, hats, insurance, participation fees, uniforms, gear and food. Food...I drop a field fee every two days to feed my kid when he's playing. Now, Jonah brought up a good point in his post. Getting your moneys worth. Two things to think about. Memories that that field fee buys and your fees going back into the field you play at. Actually let's make that three points. SDK's point about time and family are huge factors that should make field fees more appealling. Paying some one to have a prepared field should be appealling for those with limited time. One more thing. I know people consider FAW to be free play. But, somebody payed for those structures everybody played around. If there are to be more, somebody will have to dish out some more cash... Just a few more thing to consider. Alright Kids, I can see who is voting and posting. While the point of view of the older more experienced players is important. The newer player point view is still important too. We (the older more experienced player) want your input too.

OK people 15-20$ isn't a lot of money, building supplies are not cheap. I don't think the problem in WV is land to play on,but land that we can build on.Plus insurance for a field is not free.I will donate 500$ to supplies to build buildings and bunkers if we ever get a place to build on.Now as for a weekly game 5-10$ is a good starting point. But for a game like FAW 15-20$ is the perfect price point.Isaac puts a lot of time and his own money in to it.Just my 2 cents
